I know Sandema,I used to spend my holidays in late seventies and early eighties at Bawku. You are lucky to have at least some sporting facilities, I am from the Eastern Region and apart from the Mini Stadium at Koforidua, which is used by the regional inter sports (Secondary Schools now SHS and Training colleges there is no sports facilities in the region. Sports talented children from the region who either for financial reasons or academic reasons could not make it to the secondary school now SHS has no chance to develop their talents, talk-less of showing their talents. This is why we cannot stomach any longer to allow the President and his Government to continue robbing their hard earning Cocoa money to pay the educated few whose education were financed by the unlucky hard working cocoa farmers. Enough is really Enough and every money from the state must be accounted for to the penny including that to the GFA with or without the blessing of FIFA. Development Projects and opportunities must be equally among all Ghanaians without respect to ethnicity, tribe or location.

Boamah,
You have misfiring with your anlysis of the article.
You said you know Sandema but I doubt whether you actually entered the said stadium. If you did, what was inside it?
Look here , the history of the stadia was that the Regional Commissioner in the Upper Region decided that each district capitals in the region should have sports stadiums, so they were built but really never completed. I can assure you that only the Bolga one was half finished and looked like a stadium. So if the Eastern Regional Administration preferred other projects to stadium that was its priority. It was not a national decision.
However if you are not old enough ask your elders and they will tell you that when Colonel George Minyila (from Navrongo) was appointed the Regional Commissioner for the Eastern Region, he did marvelous things there. He directed that NO new should be built in Koforidua if there was no provision for water closets and flush tiolets. Today’s Koforidua is definitely NOT what Col. George Minyila dreamt of.

NN or who ever you identity is please stop this cheap politics and justification. You have shot yourself at the foot. According to the stadiums mentioned by Listowell Yesu Bukarson were built by Acheampong`s NRC Government? Was Col Minyila from the North not the Eastern Regional Commissioner for the Eastern Region in Acheampong`s NRC Government? Why did the Minyila`s Administration unlike his two colleagues from the North and Upper Regions build Stadiums for the Eastern Region despite the fact that there were three first division teams ( Koforidua Obourtabiri, Abuakwa Susubiribi and Okwahu United with Real Tamale United (RTU)? I hope you are not going to tell me because he was not the native of the Eastern Region because the Region has been marginalized in terms of Ministerial and other Government appointments in both Mills and Mahamah`s NDC Government. By the way the was only one Commissioner for both Upper East and Upper West the then Upper Regional Commissioner. Why did that Commissioner build three Stadiums in Upper East namely Sandema, Novorongo and Bolga or he built but the writer refused to mention them because he is from the Upper East and the President is from the North. To be sincere with you I dislike people who write or use politics for ethnic and tribal purposes. I was in Bawku when Mamprusi- Kusase war started due to Akata Poree`s position in the PNDC. I was very young at Minyila`s time but was at the Secondary school. The writer wrote a nice article but with ethnic and tribal undertone and agenda and should not be tolerated.

Let me paraphrase some points for you.
Did Minyila anything good for the eastern Region?
Did I say the building of the districts stadiums was a policy? Yes.
Did you know that at that time there was only ONE Upper Region?
Do you know that RTU is a merger of more than one team? Did you know that this policy of stadium building did not include Northern Region?
You appreciate that the writer only gave examples but even that was mistaken about who built them and that brought you in.
I see no reason to introduce the ethnic card in this discourse.

Did you not blame the people of the Eastern Region or at least me for Minyila`s failure to build District Stadiums in the Eastern Region? Please do mention the project that Minyila initiated in the Eastern Region? What Minyila did was using soldiers to clear the area around Koforidua Lorry park making the piece of land available to be developed by natives of the region namely Gaabs, Oteng and Adofo. Is it not mind boggling to you that though the building of the districts stadiums was a policy of the then Upper Regional Commissioner responsible for today Upper East and Upper West yet both you and the writer could not include a single one from Upper West in your examples. The writer, an international Journalist was writing on an issue affecting the whole country but decided to limit his examples to his Region of origin. Do you know the financial cost alone excluding the human cost of the numerous ethnic wars in the Northern part of the country and Bawku

You should better answer the questions put to you. Were you not implying directly that the lack of sports facilities in the Eastern is due the fact that the Eastern Regional Administration (Minyila) did not have the building of Stadium as his priorities. Was the money for the Stadium not from the Central Government? If we were to use your mas stab wouldn`t we have been against SADA and other projects specifically for the north. People must not be allowed to use ethnocentrism and tribalism to destroy themselves the North and eventually Ghana. Good bye and Good night.
