The excuse that English isn't our language is not an excuse for someone who calls himself a journalist by profession (Bernice, I know you are referring to Mike, and I agree with you about him).
If I have to start listing the mistakes in this article, my post will be too long.
Lets look at the first paragraph:
"...by Ghanaians have grown..." should be HAS grown
"..one can stop it yet the..." - there should be a comma after "it"
"I am dissatisfied by the way and manner our football strikers ..."
1. Who cares what you think?
2. way and manner - "and manner is unnecessary
"..look past begging changes that.." Poor sentence construction.
The whole of the first paragraph is shit! The whole article is probably shit as well......... I didn't bother reading it...... waste of time.

ERN, I think he got this one right by using "have" instead of "has" because he sees "love" and "attachment" as two separate elements, as you can love the game but not be attached.
He used "have" because those two elements are plural to him.
You used "has" because you saw them as singular.
Perhaps you would have let him go if he had written "the love and THE attachment"?
I agree with you on the other corrections, but note that his write-up is one of the least error-prone by our so-called journalists.
I agree with him (the writer) on his message, but he should have targeted the Black Stars at this time instead of the diminishing-output domestic-league goal kings.
I must concede, however, that that does not mean the Black Stars would not take a cue if they were to read it.

If we accept your assertion that it is possible to love the game but not be attached, then this article applies to only 33% (roughly) of Ghana as a third will just love (but not be attached), and a third will just be attached (but not love), and this article will apply to just the third that love AND are attached...........I highly doubt this was the writer's intention.
Furthermore, I would challenge your assertion that it is possible to be attached to something but not love it........ but that is a different discussion

I only said you can love the game but not be attached.
You said he was talking about "A" state.
Maybe he was talking about 2 separate states.
Since neither you nor I can prove his intention, my conclusion is that I must give him the benefit of the doubt, that is, 2 states (LOVE and ATTACHMENT).
On that basis, his use of HAVE is correct.
Anyway, I don't think your thirds are well premised, because you can love soccer or any sport without being attached (emotionally, of course), but you can't be attached (emotionally) without loving it.

My friend you have a problem with English. You have embarrassed yourself by suggesting that" Ghanaians have grown should be Ghanaians HAS grown" Do you understand plural? There was nothing wrong with the first paragraph. The love and attachment by Ghanaians refer to two things hence the plural HAVE. Please don't cause anymore academic havoc or embarrassment to yourself. I must say that I do agree with you about the lack of correct punctuation, but your suggestion is outrageous to use HAS instead of HAVE.

Kofi - read my reply to Diamond. Contrary to your first reply to me, I do NOT have a problem with English.
I am a MASTER when it comes to the English language. Let me show you where you are wrong. Let's go back to the article.
Let's put a full stop after the word "it". And continue the conversation with this state that the writer is talking about. Would you say "This love and attachment", or "These love and attachment"?
See below:
"The love and attachment to football by Ghanaians has grown to such a level that no one can stop it. THIS love and attachment IS what drives Ghanaians to don their gear and support the team blah blah blah"
"The love and attachment to football by Ghanaians have grown to such a level that no one can stop it. THESE love and attachment ARE what drive Ghanaians to don their gear and support the team blah blah blah"
The second sentence reads wrong, and therefore this proves that the "Love and attachment" is A feeling.
You won't say "these love and attachment" would you?
At the very least, to make it sound right, it should be "attachments", then you can say "these attachments" - but then, the whole paragraph would read wrong - and this comes back to the issue of poor sentence construction that I highlighted in the first place.

Thanks my friend but we may agree to disagree.Love and attachment are separate so plural must follow. You seem to be interpreting it rather than taking them as they are. Those two words are never together. There are words or nouns that are together and as such we consider them as single but not love and attachment. An example is "Ball and socket joint" You cannot call it ball joint or socket joint. In this case you can say the ball and socket joint of his hip is damaged. This is fine because they have been accepted as one. You cannot say the man and his wife is coming even though you may think they are one. You can say the man with his wife is coming. In this case you are referring only to the man and not the wife. This is interesting my brother. I love our English lessons today.

ERN: "To me, the love and attachment is a feeling, a singular feeling, that is shown by Ghanaians to football".
Correct, but we can't prove that the writer is referring to a single feeling; he might just be feeling exactly how I feel, which is that you can love the game but not be attached.
KOFI: "You cannot say the man and his wife is coming even though you may think they are one". CORRECT.
"You can say the man with his wife is coming. In this case you are referring only to the man and not the wife".
YES, but the better sentencing is, "The man, with his wife, is coming", where the commas separate "the man" (the subject), and "with his wife" (just an adjunct).

It is about time the GFA scoured the nation to unearth young strikers and groom them. It's a pity that we don't have strikers who can put fear into defences. Strikers who can score from anywhere around the 18 yard box. Defences these days are not going to allow you to walk the ball into the net. Do we have any striker's coach in our technical team just like we have a goalkeeping coach? If so then he must device techniques and skills to help our strikers increase their goal scoring ratio per game.
