Kwesi Appiah to visit 12 players in Europe this week

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah and his assistant Maxwell Konadu will visit 12 players in Europe from this week as they finalise their squad for the 2014 World Cup.

With the majority of players based in Europe, coach Appiah and his assistant will start travelling from Thursday to visit some of the key players as he finalises his squad for June’s tournament in Brazil.

The coach wants to make sure of the state of fitness and form of some of the players before he makes his decision about the final squad.

It is expected that the coach and Konadu will visit some of the top players who are certain to make his squad for the World Cup.

This means players like Kwadwo Asamoah, Sulley Muntari, Michael Essien and Agyemang Badu as well as Majeed Waris, Andre Ayew could be visited on the trip. Appiah says they will visit the players after watching Liverpool’s match on Wednesday night.

“At the moment over 90% of our players are playing in Europe,” Appiah said. “On Wednesday we will go to watch Liverpool and then afterwards my assistant and I plan to see about 12 of our players.”

Drawn alongside Germany, Portugal and the United States, Appiah is under no illusions of the size of the task his side face to even get out of the group – but said he intends to also use his trip to Europe to see as many members of his potential squad as possible.
