Fantastic contributions to both team and country. He knows when to hang up his boots, not like some of the folks we have trying to play for the Blackstars forever. By the way, I don't believe it is the loss to Ghana that is making him retire, as the author's title seem to imply.

It is important to know when to quit any endeavour we may be involved in;and say 'Thanks, and goodbye'!
we must accpt the fact that we cannot 'cheat' nature, irrespective of our talents.

All the best, Abou, "The Smiling Assassin".
2. "Aboutreika finally retires after Ghana debacle".
Well, I think he rather retired after the Club World Cup debacle.
Here's my reference, from SPORTS ILLUSTRATED:
MARRAKECH, Morocco (AP) - Monterrey of Mexico thrashed Egypt's Al-Ahly 5-1 Wednesday to finish fifth at the Club World Cup.
Neri Cardozo opened the scoring for the CONCACAF champions after three minutes before Al-Ahly's Emad Meteab equalized in the eighth for the African champions.
But Monterrey rolled over its opponent from there with goals from Cesar Delgado, Leobardo Lopez, and Humberto Suarez helping build a big lead by halftime. Delgado capped the rout with his second in the 65th to become the continental tournament's all-time leading scorer.
Later at the Marrakech Stadium, Ronaldinho looks to guide Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro into Saturday's final against Bayern Munich when it plays Moroccan team Raja Casablanca in the semifinals.

I think you are wrong. The Best player never to have won the African Best Player is Michael Essien, Stephen Appiah and of course Aboutrika. This is basically because the accolades were rather given to Samuel Etoo. Just because he was scoring many goals in Bacelona. IT IS A BIG SHAME.

Etoo deserved to win all the awards he won.To me,Etoo is better than Appiah,Essien, and Aboutrika,in terms of skills,speed,goal-scorng and consisitency.

Aboutreika did not retire because Egypt lost to Ghana, if it were so why did he not continue to play his club Al ahli, his retirement was long on the table on condition of Egypts qualifications to the world cup, he wanred to represent his country at the world cup after which he will call his retirement, since that did not happen it is only natural for him to announce his retirement now rather than later afterall how many Ghanaians of his age can you find still playing active football or are even allowed to get near Black Stars camp. Please place your reportage in proper perspective and stop the sensationalism to seem as though Ghana for that matter Black Stars results over Egypt forced Aboutreikka to retire. Tickling yourself and laughing kind of journalism.
