Rest in Peace, captain of the Ho Technical Institute football team. I remember when you played for Togo against Black Stars, after you were sidelined by Ghana for reasons best known to the officials. We were 2nd year pre-tech students at Ho Technical Institute, now Ho Poly. We were the pioneers of the school. Amexo was in Pre-tech A, and I was in Pre-tech B. He transferred after his first year from Kpando Technical to Ho Tech. Our sports master was Mr. Stephen Armah, and the principal was Mr. Richard Oguah, who left for further studies in London, and was succeeded by Mr. Dradozie. Seth Amexo was one of the best soccer players I personally came in contact with. He dribbled his way through defenders, and gave the late Robert Mensah a lot to worry about in the goal post. Amexo was with Ho Mighty Eagles when Eagles eliminated Accra Hearts of Oak from the National knockout at the Ho sports stadium. Interesting, He and his school as well as club mate goalkeeper Djakpasu joined Accra Hearts of Oak latter. He made Hotech football team unbeatable. When Amexo was leading the attack, Aguedje holding the defense and Djakpasu in the goal post, Hotech was fun to watch. Memorable games were when Amexo, Aguedje and goalkeeper Dzakpasu were with Ho Mighty Eagles, and won the National knockout competition against Tarkwa Mines Stars after the third game. The previous two games ended in a draw, penalty kicks were not in effect in 1971. My good friend and school mate REST IN PEACE. I never had a talent to play football, but you and your team mates left us fond memories at HOLLAND TECH.

Come on guys Amexo should be about 75. When I saw Amexo, he was the captain of Tema Cargo Handling team, with coach Walter Nyankah as their head coach in 1977. Their camping ground was about 200 yards from my home at site 17, Tema. That was the house owned by the brother of the late General Kotei. I was a kid but Amexo at that time looked like someone nearing his 40's. Hmmmm, not knowing age cheating begun long ago eh?

This Guy featured for Togo in the 1971 debacle at the Accra Sports Stadium. I was 19 and he would have been 27 years old then. If you think he was 35 in 1971 and good enough to run with 20 year olds you have to be mistaken.

He was five feet nine inches tall, little copper -coloured, small gap between his front teeth, looked as robust like Robert Koufie, has a dare-devil face and always had a mischievous smile. The fans called him Lugu, Nsiah, Number 6, and Dangerman. His official name was Seth Amexo.
He started playing good football at Ho Kpodzi Middle before moving on to Ho Tech ( Holland Tech). He featured in many memorable games against Ho Mawuli School those days. He was the wizard of free-kicks. When he had the ball it was almost impossible to get it from him. Against Mawuli School he was matched against the late Eleblu the great dribbler.
Amexo and his team-mate goalkeeper Dzakpasu played for Ghana Academicals.
Here are some legend and hilites about Lugu.
He participated in that 1970s FA Cup match in which Ho Mighty Eagles eliminated Accra Hearts of Oak 2-1 at the Ho Sports Stadium. Hearts line up included Abekah Ankrah, Robert Foley, Thunder Anas, Peter Lamptey, Lante Franz, Joe Ghartey, Amusa Gbadamosi(Pele), Mama Acquah (Musa). The Ho Mighty Eagles lineup included Charles Dah (in goal), Seth Amexo, Dogbe, Eleblu, Atiduse, Zonyrah, Eleblu, Mensah Aguadze, and Hezekiel (Team Manager)
He dribbled and scored on one defenceman called Kwasi Appiah of the Prestia Mine Stars in the same year after beating Hearts of Oak at Ho, thereby setting the controversial FA Cup final with Cape Coast Mysterious Dwarfs. A controversial penalty was awarded to Dwarfs and Ho Mighty Eagles were adviced by Goza to abandon the game but they returned only to be defeated.
He scored a free-kick goal against Anue Coffie (the Black Cat) when Kotoko beat Mighty Eagles at Ho in 1970.
Seth Amexo was extremely angry with Ghana coach Ben Kwoufie when he took him to AFCON 1970 in Sudan but did not field him or Aguadze nor Atiduse in any game. The coach played the same tired players: Robert Mensah, Kwasi Owusu, Ibrahim Sunday, Robert Foley, Joe Ghartey (sergeant), Joe Dakota, Abeka Ankrah, Malik Jabir, Akuetey Armah, Anas. In the end, Ghana lost by a dubious 1-0 penalty goal scored against goalie Robert Mensah. The penalty shot bounced on a pebble and out of his reach.
After the fiasco in Sudan, Amexo decided to play for Togo. In 1971 at the Accra Sports Stadium, on a rainy day Lugu donned the jersey of the Togo national team against the famous Black Stars. It was not pretty. For some strange reason the game, for most part was bearing down on the Black Stars. Then Apeti Kaolo scored. There were jubilations from Amexo , Tony Sylvester (in goal), Ayaovi Asorgba and Ayitegah. Ghana , to the amazement of everyone in the Accra Sports Stadium and those listening to Joe Lartey on radio, was playing a losing game. Then a penalty was awarded to Ghana. Things actually got worse. Ibrahim Sunday agreed to take the shot. Most Ghanaians wished Aggrey Fynn or Addo Odamettey were still around and then it might have been a sure goal. Ibrahim Sunday with fear smeared all over his visage, run towards the ball ,as most on-lookers covered their eyes, not wishing to be witnesses to mayhem. Believe it or not, Sunday fell at least two times before striking a feable shot into the awaiting hands of Tony Sylvester.
It was the last international game for Robert Mensah who was stabbed to death in November that year in 1971, Also Apeti Kaolo died later in motor-cycle accident.
God Bless You Great Star of Ghana. Rest In Peace. Thy Memories Ever Shall Remain on the Sands of Time.

For the benefit of the mourning of a great HOTOSAN, I am going to be light on you as a tribute to Seth Amexo. As a student from the Asante Region, I used pronounced his name Ame-xo, not Ame-ho, to the annoyance of my mates. I was at Ho Tech in 1972. Peter Dzakpasu was my Auto classmate. And if you care to know, there were names like Asamoah, Owusu, Otumfour, Adjei, Mensah, Amoaku which was pronounced like Amoako, just to mention a few. THe name Kwasi is given to children from Elubo to Cotonou. Oyinsky! May be he is from Russia or Poland. Not every Mensah is a thief from Kagyatia, but might be from between Elubo and Cotonou. IT WAS A RAINY DAY AT THE ACCRA SPORTS STADIUM TAHT SATURDAY AFTERNOON, I THINK IN 1971, AND IN THE DYING MINUTES OF THE GAME. EYES WERE RED, AS TOGO LED GHANA BY ONE GOAL FROM CAPTAIN APETI KAOLO. SKIPPER IBRAHIM SUNDAY OF GHANA SLIPPED ON THE MUDDY FIELD BUT HIS LEFT LEG BARELY PUISHED THE BALL IN THE PROCESS AS HE FELL DOWN, AND THE REFEREE CLAIMED HE HAD ALREADY TAKEN THE PENALTY, WHILE TOGOLESE GOAL-KEEPER SYLVESTRE WITH A CYNICAL SMILE CALMLY COLLECTED THE TORTOISE-SPEED BALL. THE GREAT ROBERT MENSAH WAS IN THE POSTS FOR GHANA, AND ROBERT FOLEY'S LAST CROSSING FROM THE RIGHT WING LANDED ON THE TOGO CROSS BAR HITTING IT THREE TIMES, AS THE OLYMPIC QUALIFYING MATCH CAME TO AN END - TOGO 1 - GHANA0. SETH AMEXO PLAYED THAT DAY FOR TOGO, SO GAFA ASKED HIM TO DECIDE WHICH COUNTRY HE REALLY BELONGED TO FROM THAT DAY AND WAS BANNED TEMPORARILY FOR THAT REASON. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE HEAD-LINE IN THE GHANAIAN TIMES WAS "BLACK STARS DISSOLVED"! IT WAS FROM THOSE ASHES THAT SPRANG THE GREAT STRONG AND WINSOME BLACK STARS SQUAD OF THE MID-1970S AND WINNERS OF THIRD AFRICAN CUP FOR GHANA IN 1978, WITH KWASI AND DAN OWUSU, OPOKU AFRIYIE, SKIPPER ESHUN, KUKU YAWSON, ROBERT HAMMOND, MOHAMMED POLO, THE PAHA BROTHERS, KOFI BRUCE, JOHN BAKER, ESSEL MENSAH, JONES ATTUQUAYEFIO... MAY THE SOUL OF SETH AMEXO REST IN PEACE! HE WAS A FASCINATING FOOTBALL PLAYER.
