"If no one calls me, it will be difficult for me to go to them and say I want to travel to support and inspire the Black Stars." Stephen Appiah complained.
I like Stephen Appiah but in this article, he is dead wrong! Is this the time to bring such a comment? How long has he been retired? Why he didn't come out before the tournament? And by the way, is he telling me that the Nigerian FA picked up its phone a called all those Nigerian retired footballers who were on the field during their encounter with Ivory Coast to come and support? Is this what Stephen Appiah is saying? No body called these legends to come to South Africa to support. They did it because they love their country.
"After all, I have my pride to protect."
Did I hear this old fool talking about pride? Who gave him that pride in the first place? Without the chances been given to him, to participate in the nation teams, from U-17 to the regular national team, where would he had gotten that pride from?
Stephen Appiah is ungrateful, my goodness! If none of the GFA call, why he didn't pick up a phone and call any of them to ask of the team's development if he so cares? Who doesn't have a phone now? So what stopped him to also call them, especially the coach to see how his development is going? You call this a humble man? He is full of pride and today, Stephen Appiah has demonstrated his true character.
An ungrateful son, Stephen Appiah, thinking about his pride, born by a loving and caring mother, Mother Ghana. Isn't this sad? When this player didn't even have a club and wasn't supposed to be in the Black Stars for the WC 2010, this was the same GFA, spoke to the National coach, Milovan, and the player was included thinking it could boost his resume to land him a new contract with Bologna. After the WC, though Bologna didn't offer him a contract, a club in Serbia gave him that opportunity. Today, he has the nerve to query the GFA of not calling him?
This is ridiculously insane! Upon everything this GFA has done for Appiah, for the fact that he wants to protect his pride, he couldn't even visit these young players who may have needed his support. Talking about his pride. What would our pride have been if it was the proper nurturing of this peaceful country?

You can insult me all you want but the truth is without Ghana, none of us would have been where we are today including Appiah whether you like it or not. I don't have to revile my identity to you for you know what I'm doing for the country. That is not important in here. Do you know where Appiah was picked from before opportunities were handed to him to be who he is today? There wouldn't have been Appiah if there was no GFA. This is what you have to think of because his pride, as he indicated, is not important than the country's development. Who is bigger than the country? I guess you have no clue, isn't it?
Poor you.
For Stephen Appiah to consider his pride over the whole country indicates he is an ungrateful child, and if you are supporting him too then you are as well.
Have you called your parents lately to see how they are doing, ungrateful son? Do so and forget about your pride or ego for it is a blessing to you and your offspring. That is what I'm talking about. If you have then what stopped Appiah to call the GFA to see how things were going? At least, chances were given to him during his injury period when his club rejected him. It was GFA who kept him in the national to for him to get back to his feet. Where we you by then? I guess you didn't know that right?
God forgive you for your insult.

Come On! Slim. I would give him the benefit of doubt. Maybe, he would have felt like barging in where he might not be welcomed. Moreover, there is an indication that there may not be open communication with other veterans as well, whereas in the case of Keshi, there may be constant chat amoung old friends, and we all know that Keshi likes to talk everywhere to everybody (even those who want to hear him and those who don't), which sometimes gets him into trouble.
All that I am saying is that although you may have a point, I would give Stephen Appiah the benefit of doubt in this one.

Keshi likes to talk which we all are aware of that. Kwasi Appiah on the other hand, keeps things to himself and you Stephen Appiah is aware of that. So why Stephen didn't call the coach? Whom has you seen given advise and another and the person simply rejected that offer? Is this the good time for Stephen to come out with such an accusation? Couldn't he has waited until the tournament is over?
Bro Kojo, are you telling me that because of Stephen's pride, he couldn't attend just a single match for these young boys to see who is there to support them though he wasn't invited? That is what big brothers do for us. Just don't go to their camp but to their matches.
Therefore, if Stephen will sit and say that he did that to protect his pride, then I don't see the reason of him bringing in any complains that the GFA didn't call him. How he was with the current GFA, he could have also pick up the phone and call the GFA. He could have also done his part to make things go right. Though the player has helped the country, don't forget that the country, and in this issue leading by GFA, has also helped Appiah in many ways.
We shouldn't be one sided but to look at things in both ways.

Does the GFA has to call ex players to find out how they are doing???? Let's get something straight here. I'm kind of lost in the middle. I just can't immagine somebody sits out there at the GFA headquaters with the duty, call old players and find out how they are doing. So, he goes to work in the morning, picks a phone and starts calling from 1957 to date. Amusa Gbadamoshie, Baba Yara, Wilberforce Nfum, Joe Ghartey, Osei Kofi, Abdul Razak, Polo, Muda Lawal, Tetteh Chandu, Shamo Quaye eeii sorry etc etc? Lord have mercy. Has Stephen Appiah sought for any insight regarding how the Nija players got to S/A or the fact he saw them on TV means the NFA took them there? Even if the NFA did, I believe the affected players first called their FA and some negotiations went on prior to the begining of the tournament. It is not even the responsibility of the Old players association kwraaaaa to call former players let alone the GFA. When you're done playing for the senior national team that's it. When there's any up coming role and they think you'll be best to play that role as a former player, you'll be contacted. Appiah, we all love you and are proud of you and your services for Ghana but I'm afraid, this is too childish.

But anyway, you seem to have no clue about the logistics and operations of an organization like the GFA. Such important units or bodies usually designate a position called a PRO. The pple in this position administer the body's relationship with the outside world. It's not like they go to work and pick up the phone and just be calling people. tha's not the logistics of the PRO. All the PRO such as in the GFA will do is to open up or create a welcoming environment for its former players. That's what Appiah is saying, not literally calling every former player. Yes, the GFA has to keep in contact with important old players such as former captain.
You seem to just jump and criticize people. It make you wrong most of the time brother.

For your correction, the GFA can be both singular and plural. Delve into it deeper, I guess I was right. I'll find out and come back on this tomorrow. Football associations all over the world contact their old or retired players only when they need them for a particular assignment. That's all I was trying to carry across with a little humor and I know it's the FA's public relations sector that deals with such. Theres already Tony Baffour, Opoku Afriyie, Willie Klutse doing some errends on the behalf of the GFA. If there's the need for Appiah to play any role why will they hestitate to call him? Just read what he said. "Since I left B/Stars, I've not recieved a single call from the GFA" Do you want to take this for an idiomatic expression or parrables?

It's a shame if the GFA ignores ex-players of the national team. Despite all the great players Ghana has produced since the inception of the Black Stars, Stephen Appiah's group were/are the ones who put Ghana on the World Cup stage. This group of soccer alumni should be touted by the sporting press & the GFA at every opportunity.Their experience & counsel need to be sought whenever necessary. The Appiahs, Essiens, John Mensahs, the Muntaris etc are a national treasure when it comes to Ghana's place in world soccer stage. They may no longer be on the national team, but they are a moral backbone & an inspiration to emerging soccer stars in Ghana.

You called that being wise? Are you serious? Stephen Appiah just blew his horn and you called that wisdom. I see foolishness in this Appiah's complain.
Let me ask you this. You and your father, who is the one supposed to call and see how the other is doing? Your father has taken care of you for all these times; you have been able to stand on your feet and doing well. Do you still want your father or mother to babysit you? Are you not the one who is supposed to even send a letter to your parents stating how wonderful they have been in your life by aiding in developing your life? Have you read any letter of article stating Stephen Appiah thanking the GFA or even Ghana before apart from the little comments these players make after winning national matches?
Don't even let me go there. If your father didn't call you, what do you do? Are you saying because you want to protect your pride, you too wouldn't take a phone and call him? Would that be a wise thing to do?
Think about it.
