Omane Boamah: Black Stars will oust Malawi

Deputy Sports Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah is steadfastly adamant that the national team are on their way to qualifying to the next Africa Cup of Nations despite only managing a 2-0 win over the Flames of Malawi in first leg of the final round qualifier. Dr. Boamah was chief among the supporters at the Accra Sports Stadium as the Black Stars huffed and puffed but could only settle on the goals of Atsu and Annan.

But the Deputy Minister has revealed his satisfaction with the result and believes the Stars can storm Blantyre in the second leg to get a favourable result..

“Nowadays in football, there is no small team so 2-0 is okay. The only way they can eliminate us is to score three goals and if you look at how our team played, we will score more goals there. There is no problem and I’m very confident we’ll qualify,” Dr. Boamah told us immediately after the game.

He is re-assuring government’s continued support to the Black Stars as another journey to the Africa Cup of Nations starts earnestly.

He revealed: “Government is committed to ensuring success for the Black Stars and we can give you an assurance that we’ll be with the team all the way.

“You saw me come out of their dressing room immediately after the game and I can tell you that the players got their bonuses. We didn’t even wait till the next day and that shows our commitment.”
