Player exodus due to National team snub – Amin Lamptey

The alarming rate of player exodus from the Ghana premier league is because players feel they have a better chance of playing for the national teams once they are seen as foreign based.

This assertion was made by veteran sports journalist, Mohammed Amin Lamptey.

In an exclusive interview with the ace sports journalist, he said a number of factors have accounted for the mass player exodus that has hit the Ghana premier league.

“Players leave the local scene not just because of money in the foreign leagues, but a combination of factors like unattractive league, poor media attention and poor attendance at venues. Another fundamental factor that accounts for mass player exodus is the negligence from the handlers of the senior national team,” Mohammed stressed.

Amin Lamptey continued that local coaches must take a chunk of the blame when it comes to player exodus in Ghana.

“The local coaches lack vision and cannot compete with the top notch coaches. They need to improve on the managerial skills if they are to reach the highest level,” he concluded.

The veteran journalist seemed to have swapped football for boxing, promoting various boxing bouts as against football on the pitch.
