Appiah, 5 Others Join Black Stars

The morale of the Black Stars soared when six members of the team who left Accra last Monday finally joined their colleagues in Mozambique last Tuesday morning to prepare for Saturday?s crucial Group Two World Cup qualifier in Kampala, Uganda.

The players, skipper Stephen Appiah, Samuel Osei Kuffour, Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari, Ibrahim Tanko and Lawrence Adjei, joined 15 others who are already in camp to round off preparations for the tie.

The first batch dominated by locals managed a lone goal victory over their Mozambican counterparts in an Independence Anniversary Cup match in Maputo last Friday. The only goal of the match was registered by Asamoah Gyan of Udinese fame. The Stars are scheduled to leave for Uganda tomorrow morning.

According to a GFA source, an advance party made up two FA members, Mr Fred Pappoe and Aloysius Denkabe, left Accra yesterday morning for Uganda to prepare the grounds for the team?s arrival.

The two officials will be joined by a member of the Black Stars and Black Meteors Management Committee, Mr Wilberforce Mfum, who was with the team in Mozambique. The Stars currently lead the group on superior goals as each of the six countries in the group have three points apiece.
