Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris scored his 11th Ligue 1 goal of the season for Lorient by scoring the winner in Les Merlus's 2-1 away triumph over Caen at the Stade Michel d'Ornano on Saturday.

The 24-year-old has now scored in each of his last four games for Sylvain Ripoll's side in the French top-flight league.

Benjamin Jeannot has struck first for the visitors, and Waris converted a penalty two minutes into the second-half to cushion their lead.

But Dennis Appiah scored a beautiful solo goal in the 64th minute to give Caen hope of at least getting an equaliser but Lorient's game plan worked, and they returned with victory.

Waris has now scored more goals than any Ghanaian player playing in any of Europe's top-flight leagues.

The only player who has scored more is SK Hansa's Okyere Wriedt, who has 19 goals in the German fourth-tier league.

Regarding numbers, the former BK Hacken goal-machine has surpassed his own record in the Ligue 1. The last time he played in the league was a loan spell at relegated Valenciennes where he bagged 9 league goals.
