Great Olympics appeal against disciplinary committee

Accra, Sept 11 - GNA - Accra Great Olympics have vowed to pursue their protest against Brong Ahafo United in relation to Nana Frimpong to a logical conclusion because "the disciplinary committee erred by dismissing our protest which was based on facts and figures computed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA)."

Stating the position of the club, Mr Oloboi Commodore, Finance Officer of Olympics said they could not understand why the disciplinary committee threw out their protest when indeed they established a case of impropriety against BA United based on evidence provided by the GFA secretariat itself.

Great Olympics lodged a protest against Brong Ahafo United for using Nana Frimpong who had received three yellow cards and must automatically miss a match in line with the statutes of the GFA. BA United won the match 14th week match played at the Sunyani Coronation Park 1-0

The disciplinary committee of the GFA however dismissed the protest without assigning reasons.

Tendering a 'caution sheet' and a fax from the GFA as exhibits, the Finance Officer said it was not the imagination of Olympics that Nana Frimpong received three cautions in the fourth, 12th and 13th weeks and was therefore not qualified to play against them in a 14th week fixture. "The fax massage was signed by Mr Kwaku Ampem Darko, Deputy General Secretary and it was confirming the ineligibility of Nana Frimpong but BA defied the order and used him against us in a 14th week match.

"If this kind of verdict is given when there is every evidence against the club in black and white, then clubs would lose confidence in the disciplinary committee. The fact is that Frimpong was on three yellow cards and should not have played against us. Anything contrary to that position is a miscarriage of justice, Mr Commodore said.

He said the referees' reports on the three matches also confirm that Nana Frimpong entered the caution sheets, making nonsense of the dismissal of the protest, which will only erode the credibility of the disciplinary committee in the minds of fair minded Ghanaians.

On their protest against Goldfields for using Valentine Atem before his immigrant status was regularized, the Finance Officer said though the player got his work permit on July 25, he was registered on July 18, a week before he became a legal immigrant.

"The rules require a foreign player to regularize his stay with the Immigration Department before he qualifies to be registered by any club. Mr Commodore said Olympics are a law abiding club, which will not do anything to disrupt the peace of the nation but warned the GFA that people are watching and reading meanings into their actions. The Finance Officer appealed to the supporters of Great Olympics to come and cheer the players in matches to enable them to achieve positive results and raise the status of the Wonder Club.
