Zumdick Is The New Black Stars Coach

It is now official. Burkhard Ziese is sewage sludge on the river of no return. As such another German coach Ralph Zumdick has been appointed to take over as the head coach of the Black Stars.

A member of the management board of the Ghana Football Association confirmed this to GHANAWEB some few moments ago. The member who pleaded anonymity said the coach has been appointed to steer the affairs of the national team for 3 months before a full contract and his future can be decided.

This effectively puts on hold the appointment of the French coach Jean-Marc Nobilo who was proposed by Abedi Ayew Pele.It is reported that government is unable to fork out the money for French coach's salary.

Zumdick will be paid the same as Burkhard Ziese was paid. He is the current coach of King Faisal after a short stint with Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

Zumdick gets Ghana post -BBC Report

German Ralf Zumdick has been given a three-month contract to manage Ghana's national team.

The former Asante Kotoko coach takes over from Burkhard Ziese, who was sacked after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2004 African Nations Cup.

Zumdick's first task will be to prepare the Black Stars for October's 2006 Nations Cup and World Cup preliminary qualifier against Somalia.

Ghana Football Association chairman Ben Koufie said their decision to hire Zumdick was influenced by his knowledge of Ghanaian football, acquired during his stint with Kotoko.

Koufie told BBC Sport website that Zumdick would get a longer contract should he prove himself within the three-month period.

"We would definitely would hand him the job if he does well," Koufie said.

The 43-year-old coach, who had a stint at German Bundesliga club Bochum, led Kotoko to the final of last year's African Cup Winners Cup.
