Ghana and Lorient striker Majeed Waris has apologised for his outburst at Guingamp's Jimmy Briand during a Ligue 1 match on 31 October.

Waris was sent off and has subsequently been banned for six matches for the incident and for kicking water bottles in anger when he was walking off to the tunnel.

"It was a crazy moment and I acted unprofessionally," the 24-year-old Black Stars forward told BBC Sport.

"I apologise to everyone and hope to return both stronger and wiser."

Waris said he couldn't believe what he'd done because he had never been so angry or reacted so badly like that in his life.

Waris was angered by a tackle from winger Briand that went unpunished by the referee during the 2-2 draw.

He reacted with a career threatening challenge, which led to a straight red card.
