Appiah-Kubi thrilled to join local Black Stars

Dreams FC midfielder Ebenezer Appiah-Kubi has expressed his delight at being called up to the local Black Stars ahead of qualifications for the 2016 African Nations Championship (Chan) in Rwanda.

The 17-year-old put up an extraordinary performance last Saturday when Dreams FC beat King Solomon 1-0 in the Ghana National Division One Zone Three top liner, under the watchful eyes of coach Maxwell Konadu, who handed him an invite after the game to join the local national senior team.

“I felt excited for the call-up. It's every footballer's dream to represent his country at all levels. I was totally overwhelmed by the call up,” Appiah-Kubi told Goal.

“I had never met or seen coach Konadu before until last Saturday when I saw him watching our game. I always put up my best for my dear club in all competitions and I never realised my performance was catching an eye,” he said.

Appiah-Kubi believes the culture of diligence at Dreams FC contributes to his personal development.

“Dreams FC are a machine that functions all day. It is all about doing your best on the field and the opportunities will come,” he said.

“I believe the local Black Stars will sail through even though it’s not going to be easy. We have a pool of quality players.”

Ghana finished as finalists at the previous edition of Chan held in South Africa in 2013.
