Millennium Marathon Launched

The first ever International Marathon to be held in Accra, Ghana, 'Millennium Marathon' has been launched at the Alisa Hotel on Tuesday.
The event, organized by Millennium Marathon Sports Limited was graced by the Minister for Youth and Sports (Mahama Ayariga), Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts (Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare), Deputy Minister of Health (Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe), the Mayor of Accra (Alfred Oko Vanderpuy), and Africa's finest runner ever, Dr. Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia.
"My Ministry is going to give its full support to all this important marathon. As a ministry, we are going to do it in all the regions to select the bests for the main event in September," Hon. Mahama Ayariga told www.sports24gh.com
The race dubbed 'Run the change in you' is expected to attract over 15,000 people competing in a half marathon (21 kilometres), as well as ambassadorial and family race (5 kilometres).
According to the organizers, the marathon is aimed at giving the individual continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of skills, tourism, and friendship with families, other Olympics athletes and the community.
The Millennium Marathon International Race will come off on Sunday, September 6, 2015 in Accra and will commence at the Independence Square through some principal streets in the capital.
Key stakeholders of the event are; the Government of Ghana, Ministry of Youth & Sports, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Ministry of Health, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Ghana Police, Coca Cola, Peugeot, Ethiopian Embassy, Ethiopian Airlines, Alisa Hotel.
