Stephen Abugri named as cause of Hearts woes

Former assistant coach of Accra Hearts of Oak, Stephen Abugri has been named as the cause of the technical woes of the club.

There was news in the media that Abugri had a fight with the team manager of the Club, Nii Sabahn Quaye, hence his demotion to the junior side of the club which the Team manager has denied.

However, the team manager has revealed that Abugri was sabotaging head coach Herbert Addo, hence his demotion.

In an exclusive interview with sportscrusader.com in Benin after the AS Police match, Sabahn Quaye said Stephen Abugri was masterminding some of the players into undermining the head coach, an action he mentioned was confirmed by one of the players.

“I knew the team I left prior to the AFCON and though I was following events from Equatorial Guinea, I knew something was wrong. Upon my return, I made some investigations into why the slump in the performance of the team and I found a host of issues; one of which was the pollution of players by Abugri”.

“I mean, how can a coach tell a player that, ‘I wanted you to play in the match, but the coach said it wasn’t your time and that he prefers your other colleague’.

How is this possible, what is it that you are planting in the players when you tell them things like these”?

He mentioned that Abugri on several occasions had mentioned that he was not comfortable working with Dauda Lutterodt, a statement he even reiterated in front of the Board Chairman during one of the usual interactions.

“The Board and the Management also made did their investigations and came out with their own decision so it has nothing to do with me.”

Despite the demotion, the former assistant coach will enjoy the same salary as stated in his contract.
