‘Black Stars must avoid defensive lapses’

Former captain of the Black Stars Charles Akunnor has advised the team to avoid defensive errors as they take on Algeria at the Estadio De Mongomo in the second Group C game today.

He said avoiding basic defensive errors will be one of the key factors in the game against the North Africans, he said in an interview.

According to Akunnor, the team can revive its campaign in the competition by ensuring that they have maximum concentration throughout the game.

Akunnor said he was convinced that, the players have learnt their lessons well and will go into the next game with a lot of caution and tactfulness.

“I am sure the players are aware of the challenges and want to win the next game and will do their best to pick the three maximum points at stake,” he stressed.

The Stars lost the first game against Senegal and the defence has been blamed for the defeat.

A win for the Black Stars will help them revive their chances in the competition after the first game loss whilst defeat will end their dreams of ending the 32-year wait for a major trophy.
