Boateng-Gyan: GFA should pre-finance national team assignments

Black Stars management committee member, Yaw Boateng Gyan, is urging the Ghana FA to consider opening talks with banks that can help in pre-financing the campaigns of the national teams in international tournaments.

The Ghana FA had to rely on the remaining US$3.1 million earned from the 2014 World Cup to pre-finance the Black Stars 2015 Africa Cup of Nations campaign due to the late release of funds from government.

“The FA should be capable of even contacting a bank here in Ghana to raise their own money to pre-finance some of these tournaments so that when you go and they give you the money, you can come and pay with interest. But, the thing is that we (government) are pampering them (GFA),” Boateng Gyan told Kumasi-based radio station, Ultimate Radio 106.9FM.

“We are pampering them in the sense that government pre-finances and they come and pay the money without any percentage of interest,” he added.

Though the GFA has a business relationship with the Unibank and First Capital Plus Bank, the Ghana government had to go for a loan of US$4 million to facilitate the FA’s payment of the Black Stars player and management team appearance fees at the Brazil 2014 tournament.
