So GFA is heading for another disgrace?

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is going through huge turbulence. The Brazil disaster, the league suspension and Black Queens’ failure, coupled with the controversial sacking of Coach Kwesi Appiah is actually rocking the GFA.

The GFA is stifled by all this, yet it still looks to be inviting more worries. The association’s sacking of Kwesi Appiah was not timely. The performance of Black Stars in Brazil could warrant a sack for a head coach on any day, but you don’t repose a “101%” confidence in a coach only to ‘slay him’ when not doing well.

The sacking, which majority of Ghanaians were not happy with has left the Black Stars head coach position vacant. The GFA opened applications for top coaches around the world to apply.

The UEFA Pro License qualification was asked for by the GFA, of which over 30 applicants did present. The GFA short – listed five applicants. The coaches selected were Avram Grant, Juan Ignicio Jimenenz, Patrick Kluivert, Marco Tardelli, and Michel Pont.

Later, and in an embarrassing manner, Kluivert claimed, he never applied for the job. The Dutch withdrew and Marco Tardelli, who was also to travel from UK to Ghana for his interview, refused to.

The GFA did interview Michel Pont, Avram Grant and Juan Ignicio Jimenenz and had their hands tied in appointing one of them. The GFA knows they are supposed to pick one of the coaches, for him to assume the reins before the Ghana double header games against Uganda and Togo.

The GFA is delaying in naming a coach who would supervise the two games (Uganda/Togo) because it is entangled in a dilemma. The FA is not going according to the plans it laid down to appoint a coach for the two games. The coach could come in to select his players and lay down a system of play, but it looks like illusion.

The GFA looks confused. It seems not to have a clue as to who to choose. Why is it delaying? The association has professed doing due diligence in short – listing the coaches, so why the sudden delay?

Many factors could be contributing to the delay by the FA in appointing a coach, but it must be stated that the GFA is actually heading towards disgrace. If it is assumed the GFA did due diligence, then backing off from any of these three will be a big disgrace for the association as the selection committee’s credibility will be seriously questioned!
