GFA must plan the Ghanaian league properly - Herbert Addo

Hearts of Oak coach Herbert Addo has called on the Ghana Football Association and major stakeholders to put a defined calender in place for the local league.

Addo believes this will help the clubs get themselves ready for the season so that all the clubs can start at the same level and take away any advantages that will destroy the competitiveness of the league.

“The Ghana Football Association needs to prepare their dates well and that boils down to good planning. They should follow what is being in Europe where clubs know the league schedule ahead of time and that allows them to prepare well. It helps everybody from the coach to the chairman to get everything done well,” Addo said on Metro TV’s Sports File programme.

Addo explained the negative effects of the lack of a plan for the league on the clubs and the competition itself:

“Clubs do not know when the league is starting and that affects their preparations. Some will start too late into the off-season and they will be battling with financial issues while trying to deal with the training. That leaves them with very little time before the season starts and the entire season becomes lopsided.

Last season, Kotoko started last season properly because they got ready early while others were left unsure because of the uncertainty surrounding the start of the league. When they got into the rhythm of the league, they were left with a lot to catch up on.”

The start of the next First Capital Plus Premier League has been tentatively fixed for the 21st of September but the indications are that an official confirmation will be given at the GFA’s Congress on the 12th of September.

Meanwhile, Hearts lost to Tema by two goals to one in a pre-season friendly played at the Tema Stadium on Wednesday.

The Phobians are due to take part in the GHALCA Top Four which kicks off on the 27th of August.
