Kenpong fulfills promise to 1963 “old” black stars

Kenpong Group of Companies yesterday honoured its ¢20,000 pledge it made to the 63’ year Group retired Black Stars players at the Studios of Peace FM.

The gesture was in support of an initiative put together by the Peace Power Sports team to reward the 1963 year-Group, winners of the country’s first Nations Cup silverware.

Kennedy Agyapong aka ‘Cappucino’ who is the Chief Executive of Kenpong Group of Companies made the pledge during a Fund Raising Gala Dinner at the Sun Lodge Hotel last December.

Reverend Osei Kofi, a key performer of the 63’ year Group in his acceptance speech indicated “We are indeed grateful to Kenpong. The fund raising was specifically meant for the 63’ year Group, and the 50th anniversary fell exactly last year.

“We were here when Ghana celebrated 50th anniversary, and we all saw the glamour that went with it, why can’t we do the same for a team that won the country its first major trophy. It would have been something else if it had been in Europe or outside Ghana

“This gesture has come at the right time, eleven out of 19 colleagues of the 63’ Group who were present at the Dinner have been disturbing me with calls to enquire of the money, We thank Kenpong and his team,” he added.

Presenting the cheque on behalf of ‘Cappucino’, George Amoako, the financial director, Kenpong Group who was accompanied by colleagues Kofi Poku and Mohammed Alhassan “We at Kenpong have always believed in the promotion and development of football and sports in general. We are here on behalf of our boss to honour the pledge we made last year. Our past heroes had done our nation proud and we believe they need to be duly recognized,” said Amoako.
