Asamoah Gyan sets record in UAE

Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has become the first ever player to score 70 goals in two-and-half seasons in the United Arab Emirates top-flight after scoring for Al Ain in their 1-1 home draw with Al Sharjah on Friday.

The 28-year-old emerges with the record after proving to be a consistent scorer for Ain since joining the club in the 2011/12 season from English side Sunderland.

Gyan’s impressive scoring rate includes goals from the UAE Cup and the Pro League in just under two-and-half seasons.

Despite arriving in mid-season, the former Udinese hit-man managed to beat established strikers including Brazilian Grafite to the title on his debut season after scoring 22 goals.

After establishing himself on his first season, he went on to bag 31 times on his second season helping Al Ain to retain the trophy they won the earlier season.

The former Udinese striker is chasing to break a personal record he set last season as he has scored 14 goals in 11 games this season.
