Dwarfs confirm Rashidi Iddi as new head coach

Premier League outfit Dwarfs have confirmed former player Rashid Iddi as the club’s new substantive head coach.

The decision by the club’s hierarchy to appoint Iddi was taken after previous head coach Professor J.K. Mintah asked to go on sick leave to surgically correct a knee problem abroad. Iddi, until his appointment was the club’s assistant coach.

“We have elevated the current assistant coach Rashid Iddi as our substantive head coach. He is an ex-player of Asante Kotoko and also played for our dear club and we believe his recent appointment as an assistant coach of the Black Queens proves his abilities.

“We believe he can do the job well and we got further convinced by the team’s display away to New Edubiase last Sunday,” says club spokesperson Paul Adjetey Dzanie.

Iddi featured for Great Olympics and Kotoko during his prime as a player and switched to coaching after Dwarfs were plunged from the elite division for the first time in 2003. He later took over Faisal in 2008 before returning to Dwarfs.

Footy-ghana.com understands that the move is to smoothen the departure of Professor Mintah, who had already threatened to resign because of pressure from the club’s fans following a poor run of form.

Our sources reveal that Mintah will not return to the club after his surgery, hence the decision to make Iddi the new substantive head coach.
