Stephen Appiah Fined $3,000

According to JoyOnline, the captain of the Black Stars, Stephen Appiah has been denied permission by his club, Brescia, to travel to Ghana for the match between the Black Stars and Rwanda. Stephen Appiah is also reported to have been fined 3000 US Dollars for insisting that he wants to travel to Ghana. Doctors at Brescia, Italy on Tuesday certified Appiah as unfit to play football for ten days and that included the Ghana - Rwandan game.

Appiah was informed that risking his injury could have a devastating effect on his season, and that if he played and aggravated the injury he would be put out of action for six months.

Appiah then applied to visit Ghana to give his Black Stars team-mates moral support during the Rwandan game. But the club turned it down and instead fined him 3,000 US Dollars. This means that Coach Afranie would have to revise his options in midfield because the captain of the team was expected to be the fulcrum of the midfield play.
