Agbo - Champion of Cowbell Nation Cycling Tour

…Wins 7,000ghc plus giant trophy

For maintaining the enviable Yellow Jersey at the eleventh stage of the 13 days Cowbell National Cycling Tour, Prosper Agbo representing City Migro club was declared winner of the 2013 event.

He took home a giant trophy, cash of 7,000ghc and products from Promasidor and Pens & Plastics, sponsors of the Cowbell National Cycling Tour.

The diminutive cyclist who won the Yellow Jersey at the 9th stage in Koforidua because he was the best rider by time was very happy and enjoyed his victory with team mates, family members and friends who had come in their numbers to see the final stage of the race at the Ghana International Trade Fair Center.

“Star of the Tour” Samuel Anim of Dansoman based Young Stars was awarded the overall second best and he took home a trophy, 5,000ghc in addition to his Green Jersey (for Best by Points) which he won from the beginning of the competition and products of the sponsors.

He also won the “Best Fighter” Red Jersey award which goes with 2,000, a nice gold cup and products.

Osu based All Stars were adjudged the Best Team and their captain, Isaac Odonkor took the Blue Jersey, a cup, 5,000ghc and products.

Young strong mountain climber on bike, Frank Awuku Akuffo easily won the White Jersey in addition to 1,500ghc, a golden cup and products.

The climax of the Tour was the eleventh stage in Accra, a two laps criterion won by no other cyclist than Samuel Anim. He beat 2012 overall winner Henry Tetteh Djangmah of Die Hard to the second place and Moro Yakubu Egala also of Die Hard took the third position out of 60 cyclists.

Most fans thought Anim should have been the overall winner for 2013, for his fantastic performance on the Tour, but the two falls in Sunyani and Dodze affected his time to make Agbo come past him.

Wilberforce Quaye, chairman of All Stars said after the well-arranged closing ceremony blended with fireworks by the Ghana Military that he was impressed with the performance of the cyclists and appreciated the sponsorship by Promasidor.

“I give thanks to God for letting my team win the overall and Cowbell for supporting Ghana Cycling. Without them, there will be no cycling and for some of us, we love to ride, not to kick the ball, so I am pleading with the government to also support us” he said.

Samuel Anim told yours truly he was not sad to lose the big trophy, but as a true sportsman he was happy that others have won some of the prizes and thanked all who supported and cheered him on the Tour. He thanked the media for exposing him and promised to take Ghana very far in international cycling.

Seidu Sulley, chairman of Young Stars hinted that he was very sad that the ultimate missed his boy because he did very well than all the cyclist and 2013 should have been his year. He said Young Stars will go home and do their homework and come out bigger and better.

Communications Manager of Promasidor, Kwabena Asamoah who was very busy on the Tour doing many things at the same time said the 2013 Tour had been competitive, exciting, and really marketed their brand, Cowbell. He made sure all the 14 journalists who followed the event were awarded with silver medals while the Tour officials got gold medals.

DSP Sasu Mensah, who led the security forces on the Tour noted that everything went on nicely and prayed that the next Cowbell Tour will be better and extra massive. He commended his men who controlled the traffic and protected the entire convoy.
