Waris appreciates time at BK Hacken

Abdul Majeed Waris will forever remain grateful for the three seasons he spent in Sweden playing for BK Hacken in the Allsvenskan.
The Right to Dream Academy trained striker joined Hacken at the beginning of 2010 on the back of a record breaking school career at Hartpury College in the UK.
Life did not come easy at Hacken however as Waris found the net just three times in 26 games in his first two season but 2012 proved his breakthrough year as he banged the net 23 times in 29 games to claim the goal king award and become the first Ghanaian player to win such accolade in Europe since the great Tony Yeboah.
Waris went a step further to re-write the record books by becoming the first player from this country to score five in a single game in Europe in Hacken’s 6-1 victory against IFK Norrkoping in a league game back in May.
He also received the Swedish league’s best player award of 2012 and came third behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Sweden’s overall player of the year gong.
National team rewards have come too after the striker made his Black Stars debut in a friendly international against China in August and is expected to be named in Coach Kwesi Appiah’s 23-man squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in a month’s time. Having already agreed a $3.5m transfer to Russian giants, Spartak Moscow ahead of formally joining them in January, Waris took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Hacken fans and the entire Swedish league for the opportunity.
“Thanks to everyone who loved and supported me all the way in Sweden. I really appreciate it and I hope I did not let anyone down. There is a point in life that you have to leave things and take a next step to challenge yourself as life is full of challenges. I think my mission is completed here and I’m ready for the next,” Waris wrote on his Facebook page.
