Nana Asare coy on CAN 2013 place

Holland based left back, Nana Kwesi Asare has not hidden the unwavering desire to play for Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations but will bid his time even if he does not make the Black Stars party for South Africa 2013. Asare has failed to nail his place in the national team, hobbling in and out since his debut over 5 years ago, in fact making just six appearances since 2007.

He was back again, last time against Cape Verde in Portugal as Coach Kwesi Appiah took one last look at fringe players likely to gatecrash the 23-man squad and possibly failed to impress Ghanaians yet again.

Nana Asare is however in form for club side, Utrecht for whom he has started 12 of 14 Eredivisie games this season, as he did last Saturday lasting the entire 90 minutes of their 0-2 loss at NAC Breda. His national team quest may continue to be a struggle but 26 year old Asare who previously played for Mechelen in Belgium before switching to Holland in 2008, is patient to wait for his right Black Stars time. “Day by day I try to do my best and I work hard every day to improve. It’s a dream that will come true if I make the Nations’ Cup squad. If not, I won’t be so disappointed,” he stated.

Nana Asare explained: “I know this is a group of so many talented players who are all working very hard and determined to make the final squad. So I will be glad if I’m in but I won’t be disappointed if I’m left out.”
