Nyaho leads Hearts of Oak tributes for President Mills

Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe is leading the expression of grief by Accra Hearts of Oak following the death of former Board Chairman of the club President John Evans Atta Mills.

Atta Mills so loved Hearts of Oak that he gave up all his shares in the club when he became Ghana’s Vice President in 1997 but Nyaho, himself a former Chairman of the club, especially remembers one trait of President Mills.

“One principal thing we have to remember as far as Hearts of Oak was concerned was that he was a firm believer in catching them young. He also always insisted that Hearts make superstars, we don’t buy superstars.

"He believes we should get players at younger ages and develop them which I also strongly believe in. Football is a youthful game and it must be run as such,” Nyaho said.

The former Army doctor was boss of Hearts in the 1980s, a predecessor to now late President Mills. Nyaho remembers fondly all the good work, commitment and love of the club by the former President.

He said: “When I left as Chairman and Harry Sawyer was in charge, he was assistant to Harry Sawyer. When Sawyer left, he took over as Chairman of the club and he worked very hard and he also became Chairman of what we called Interim Management Board and when Ato Ahwoi was also Chairman of the club, he also assisted him. He did a lot for the club and I must say that he was one of the first principal shareholders of the club.”
