Akonnor set to recruit outside Ghana

Head coach of Hearts Charles Akonnor is bemused with the attitude of certain Ghana Premier League clubs in the release of their players to his club. He has hinted that Hearts may go outside the country for talent.

With players like Gilbert Fiamenyo, Asiedu Attobrah, Godfred Saka and many others playing hide-and-seek with the capital giants, Akonnor is worried that he may not get the material he needs to bring the title back to Accra.

"Teams are not willing to give their players to Hearts and it makes matters difficult. Sometimes, Hearts makes the necessary efforts but when the clubs are not willing to give their players to the club. It is really problematic," he said.

The gaffer added that if the situation continues then his side will have no option than to look outside the borders of Ghana for the required breed of players. "If we have to go outside the country and search for quality players that will obviously not come cheap. But since we want the best for the club we cannot rest on our oars to get the quality we want."

Despite this minor setback, the head coach was confident that the club will do its best to grab the best arsenals at its disposal, and make sure that next season's league trophy returns to Hearts' trophy cabinet.

"It's a minor setback but honestly, I don't see it as a problem at all. We still have our players and we can still play the league even without any additions. But of course, we need a few quality legs to augment the already existing squad."
