Confussion In Kotoko Deepens As Rival Faction Places Injuction On Inauguration

Kumasi,(Ashanti Region) 26, Sept. The National Circles Council and Ladies Club of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football Club have filed a writ at a Kumasi High Court for an order of perpetual injunction to restrain the Club's Patrons from inaugurating and swearing in a new nine-member Board of Directors. The plaintiffs in their statement of claim prayed the court to declare the appointment of the nine-member Board of Directors of the club null and void and against the Club's constitution and the Companies code. It also prayed the court to declare the purported removal of the existing 15-member Board of Directors by the Patrons alone as unconstitutional.

The writ, filed on behalf of the plaintiffs by Mr Dennis Adjei, a Kumasi lawyer, said the composition of the Club is made up of the Chief Patron, Patrons, Board of Directors, Management, Circle, playing body, Old Players Association and the Ladies club. It said on September 13, the Patrons of the club appointed a nine-member board of directors to run the affairs of the club without the consent of Otumfuo Opoku Ware the Second, Asantehene and Chief Patron, and Mr George Aduse Poku, Chairman of the incumbent board of directors. In addition, the Patrons appointed the new board members without removing the 15-member board of directors which had operated for about a year. The inauguration of the new board is fixed for tomorrow, September 27, at the Manhyia Palace.
