Malawi, Ghana draw in last pre-AFCON test matches

Malawi national football team, the Flames, on Tuesday wrapped their pre-Africa Cup of Nations preparations with a barren draw against ‘Black Stars’ of Ghana in a match played in Swaziland.

The draw for the Flames comes at the back of another 1-1 draw with defending African champions, Egypt in Cairo last Tuesday.

Malawi coach, Kinna Phiri featured the same team which faced Egypt with only a change in goals where Simplex Nthara replaced injured Swadick Sanudi and was in an inspired form.

Meanwhile, coach for the Flames said the squad will be leaving Swaziland for Angola on Thursday.

Phiri said the preparations have been successful with their unbeaten run against local club in Malawi, Mozambique, Egypt and Ghana.

“We started our preparations for this tournament on December 2 and had only the local players, where we played a friendly match against a local side. We were joined by the professionals on December 20 for five days before we went to Egypt for a friendly and managed a 1-1 draw. We also played Mozambique and won 1-0 and drew 0-0 with Ghana in our last preparatory game is the icing on top of the cake,” said the Flames mentor.
