Price of Ghanaian Players

...Essien valued at 30 million euros
Michael Essien remains the most expensive Ghanaian football player in the world with an estimated market value of 30 million euros, according to a research. His value has dropped by about 10 million from last year.

The 26-year-old international joined the Chelsea in the summer of 2005 for 36 million euros from French club Lyon, but any club that will require his services today will have to dish out close to twice that amount.

Sulley Ali Muntari (Inter Milan, Italy), a target of Tottenham, is the second most expensive with an estimated value of 18 million euros. His transfer price has not risen much since his move from England.

Kojo Asamoah (Udinese, Italy) is the third most expensive at 5 million euros. Kwadjo's value rose as a result of his stunning performance for his club in the 2008-9 season.

John Mensah(Rennes, France) and John Paintsil (Fulham, England) are worth about 4 million euros. The central defender was a reported target for Turkish side, Galatasary.

Market value is ultimately determined by supply and demand. Deciding factors include a player's degree of fame, the strength of his play, state of health, and the remaining period his contract has to run. But it might also depend on whether a club is seeking to part company with him, or whether a top European club is expressing interest. The sum of money can skyrocket from one moment to the next. Equally, it can crumble.

It should be noted that the stated market value is not identical to the actual value for the club itself; however, the figures have not entirely been plucked out of thin air either?

We present below the market value of Ghanaians players in Europe. The transfer window opened on 1 January and European clubs have until the end of the month to make any new signings.
