Benson T. Baba seeks IOC interpretation

Accra, June 30, GNA - The embattled ex-President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Benson Tongo Baba is seeking interpretation from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on recent happenings in the office of his outfit.

Mr Baba who was dethroned as President of the Committee, which he has headed for over a decade, describes the circumstances surrounding the organization of the Congress that elected Professor Francis Doodo as his successor as illegal and has decided to head to the IOC for interpretation.

He told GNA Sports at the GOC Congress near Kasoa on Tuesday that "whatever happened there was unacceptable because I had deferred the Congress indefinitely and I am the only one with that right to do so. "It is my prerogative to come out and defend the IOC and the Olympic Charter as best as my conscience say." Mr Baba said he will further seek interpretation from all affiliate bodies globally to ensure that the right thing is done for posterity sake.

He claimed that the elections at the Congress, which took place regardless of his decision to leave the venue after tempers' flared over the constitution of the Electoral College was politically motivated. In the next few days, Mr Baba has indicated he will file a report to the IOC, even though he is keeping the details of the content close to his chest and underneath his gown, the ex-president insists the outcome will be one which will ensure the GOC is reinstated as the independent and autonomous body it must be.

Mr Baba was hoping to be re-elected today to solidify his quest to get on the IOC Board and the recent setback is expected to halt his ambition.

Having lost his hold on the Chairmanship of the National Handball Association (NHA) only last week, it was expectant that the man who won every election throughout his three-time tenure was finally in for a fight.
