Zaytuna lose Adzagba appeal

Accra, Sept 8, GNA - Zaytuna FC's bid to survive the Premiership has suffered yet another set back that could undo their quest to stay out of relegation.

The Club's hope of bagging points of Real Tamale United (RTU) for fielding Kwame Adzagba whom they deem unqualified to feature in last season Premier League has been dashed by the Appeals Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The Committee in its ruling last week, which was gathered by GNA Sports, unanimously dismissed Zaytuna's appeal built on the regularity of the passport of Adzagba, as it insisted that RTU's defence is genuine.

Zaytuna had prayed the Appeals Committee to overturn the earlier ruling of the Player Status Committee that quashed their claim over the ineligibility of Adzagba.

"From the record and submission of the counsel for the parties, we are unable to disturb the verdict of the Disciplinary Committee."

The ruling said "the Committee will be acting in excess of its jurisdiction if it were to determine that the passport in issue was regularly or irregularly obtained."

The latest ruling therefore means that Zaytuna who had claimed that Adzagba was not a Ghanaian have lost their case under the prerequisite legislations of Ghana football. Zaytuna claimed the player who holds two Ghanaian passports is a Togolese, which were obtained fictitiously. The Club is placed amongst the three bottom clubs and were relegated alongside Tema Real Sportive and Accra Great Olympics.
