Young Viola win anniversary cycling race

Hohoe, Mar 7, GNA - Nelson Viola, a 22-year old cyclist from Ve-Koloenu near Hohoe emerged winner of the Hohoe District Bicycle Race organized by the District Assembly as part of activities marking the Golden Jubilee Anniversary celebrations.

Viola beat a host of 25 other competitors and took home a 21-inch colour television set, a certificate of honour, Anniversary T-Shirts and a cap as his prize.

Edward Ansah and Egbenunya Walter who placed second and third respectively also received TV sets, certificates, T-Shirts and caps as their prizes with Oliver Nutakor receiving a ghetto blaster, a certificate and T-shirt and a cap for placing fourth. In the women's race of five competitors, Beatrice Zigah came first when she beat Afari Dzitah, Ellen Atitsogbe and Brigitte Zorkpli to the second, third and fourth positions.

Zigah, Dzitah, and Atitsogbe also received TV sets, certificates, T-Shirts and caps with Zorkpli taking home a ghetto blaster, a certificate, T-Shirt and a cap as their prizes.

Mr John Peter Amewu, Hohoe District Chief Executive urged the people to make use of sports facilities especially the lesser popular ones to bring honour to themselves, their communities and the country at large. He gave the assurance that Government would continue to provide the enabling environment and develop the necessary infrastructure to develop talents as sources of revenue generation and for healthier lifestyles. Atitsogbe told the GNA Sports that she decided to take to bicycle riding as a leisure and because of her interest but that she has just realized that she can pursue it a sport to achieve greater heights and hoped NGOs and corporate bodies would sponsor her.
