Yeboah Fights for New Deal

IN HAMBURG'S friendly in Neubrandenburg, the future of Anthony Yeboah is at stake as the Ghanaian fights for a contract.

When striker Yeboah picked up muscle problems five weeks ago, it didn't seem more than just another niggling injury. Since then however, the Ghanaian international hasn't appeared for one single minute.

Ever since his recovery, the 34-year-old has been sitting on the subs' bench, as his replacement, former Preston and Liverpool hitman Erik Meijer, is in excellent form.

Therefore the test on Sunday is a welcome chance. For Yeboah not only his regular place in starting line-up is at stake, but also his contract, which expires on June 30.

As of yet, the club and the player are having an option of extending the deal for another year. The striker has always emphasized not to be willing to spend his time on the bench or the stands. In such a case he'd rather end his Bundesliga career.

Yeboah's agent Joachim Leukel is anticipating a big deal. "Tony would be a free transfer. And there should be enough clubs in Europe for top class strikers."
