Soccer- Obuasi Goldfields WIN

A 65th-minute goal by Nana Arhin-Dua gave Obuasi Goldfields a hard fought 1-0 win over visiting Tano Bofoakwa in their match played the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium.

Goldfields, determined to erase the 0-1 defeat handed them by Kawebibirem United last Saturday, put every thing into the game, but wasted three scoring chances in the 11th, 13th and 23rd minutes.

The visitors countered strongly but in the process wasted two corner kicks in the 34th and 36th minutes. The homesters maintained their pressure for the leader in the second half but poor finishing up deprived them orf a goal until the 65th minute when Arhin-Dua, who had a terrible day found the net.

Striker Alexander Tachie-Mensah scored a hat-trick as Dwarfs beat troubled Accra Great Olympics 3-1 at the Cape Coast Stadium. Ironically, it was the visitors who scored first in the ninth minute through Amui Quaye who finished off a neat pass by Wisdom Abbey.

Dwarfs lifted their game after that early scare by Oly to equalise in the 18th minute through Tachie-Mensah who meandered through a crowded Oly defence to slot the ball into the net.

He was on target again in the 33rd minute when he headed home a free-kick, lobbed by team-mate Iddrisu Alhassan. Tachie-Mensah sealed the doom for Oly in the 47th minute with the third. Oly fought back in the later stages of the game but their efforts were thwarted by the Dwarfs defenders.

Asante Kotoko halted their string of defeats in the on-going ABC Premier League when they piped B/A United 1-0 at the Sunyani Coronation park. The victory, which sent their supporters who accompanied them to Sunyani into spontaneous celebrations, was earned through a header by their hardworking midfielder Godwin Ablordey in the 73rd minute following a cross from substitute Shilla Alhassan.

Kotoko could have registered more goals, but for the spectacular saves and tackles from the goalkeeper of B/A United Sampson Tetteh and their defenders, particularly Mohammed Yaps and Godfred Yeboah.

B/A United, who played a solid midfield game, also came close to scoring on a number of occasions but indecision on the part of their strikers robbed them of any goal Koforidua-based Power F/C beat visiting Sekondi Hasaacas 3-0 in their ABC Premier League match played at the Koforidua Sports Stadium.

Hasaacas started the match strongly and gave a false impression of teaching Power some football lessons with good football distribution, spearheaded by Kofi Abbrey.

However, after the first ten minutes, tiredness set into the Sekondi boys, who conceded their first goal in the 14th minute, when right winger Ebo Mensah of Power, took advantage of a defensive blunder and planted the ball at the blind side of Maxwell Owusu in the post of Hasaacas.

Power mounted a series of raids and could have increased their score line, but poor shooting up front on robbed them of their chances. Power scored their second goal in the 54th minute when the left out Yaw Achampong outpaced his marker to lay the ball for inside left Dennis Odoom to score.

When all seemed to be settling for a two-nil victory, Power's substitute player, Samual Owusu, beautifully curled the ball into the left corner of the goal post from a free kick behind the penalty box of Hasaacas in the 78th minute for the third goal.

Akyem-Asuom Kwaebibirem United and King Faisal settled for a 2-2 drawn game in their sixth week ABC Premier league match played at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.

It was a balanced game and the visitors gave their opponents a scare in the 13th minute when one of the forwards could have connected home a perfect cross from the right flank by centre-forward Oppong Kyekyeku.

Let off the hook, Faisal turned the heat on the visitors and in a goal mouth action, outside-left Nana Frimpong scored the opener with a header in the 31st minute. Six minutes later, centre forward Eric Gawu's shot at goal went over the bar.

The game became a ding-dong battle until the 40th minute when outside-left Osei Kofi equalised for Kwaebibirem when he nodded home a free-kick by left full-back Awulet Musah.

Osei Kofi was on target again in the 45th minute when he capitalised on a defensive blunder by right full-back Robert Oduro and in a solo effort beat goalkeeper Sampson Appiah to increase the tally for his side.

Faisal resumed the second half with increased vigour by making two changes, bringing on J. B. Dankwah and Ben Wilson for Eric Gawu and Kwabena Opoku which changed their pattern of play.

With incessant raids into the goal-area of their opponents, a hard-pressed defender of Kwaebibirem, Victor Antwi handled the ball in the penalty box and Joe Agyemang scored from the resultant kick to keep his side on level terms.

Okwawu United made amends of their recent chain of defeats when they trashed Real Temale United (RTU) 4-0 in their ABC Premier League match played at the Nkawkaw Park.

RTU kicked off but lost to Okwawu who piled up pressure and had five corner kicks in the 3rd, 6th, 11th, 13th and 20th minutes but failed to utilise any of them.

Okwawu scored the first goal in the 32nd minute through inside-left Yaw Berko when his beautiful header from right full back Kwasi Asanti's free kick beat goalie Mohammed Suraju.

Okwawu could have increased the scores before the end of the first half but their attackers failed to convert three chances in the 37th, 40th and 43rd minutes. Okwawu maintained their superiority on the game and got the second goal through a penalty, when RTU right half back Ahmed Yakubu fouled inside right Abdul Migma in the box, which was perfectly taken by skipper Ismaila Iddrisu.

Okwawu maintained their pressure and got their third goal in the 71st minute through right half back Eddy Acquah in a goal mouth mix up. Okwawu made a change in the 79th minute, bringing in Douglas Addy for Abdul Migima, who announced his presence in with a goal in the 89th minute from a perfect pass from centre forward Ernest Boateng that displaced Keeper Suraj Mohammed.
