OLY BEAT KOTOKO 2-0

Accra (Greater Accra) 11 Jan. '98 Wonder club Accra Great Olympics beat visiting Kumasi Asante Kotoko, reduced to ten men from the 70th minute, 2-0 in their sixth week ABC golden lager premier football league match played at the Accra Sports Stadium today. Right winger Godwin Arthur-Tay and inside right Ofosu Peasare netted for Oly in the 20th and 90th minutes respectively in the tension-packed match which recorded the biggest crowd in recent times. Oly kicked off and found their rythmn in the fifth minute but they could not find the net. Kotoko's inside left George Siaw was booked for rough tackle in the seventh minute and two minutes later striker Awudu Ibrahim of Oly took his turn. Arthur-Tay connected home Peasare's powerful shot outside the penalty area when goalkeeper constant Mantey of Kotoko failed to make a first time save for Oly's opener in the 20th minute. Oly nearly increased the tally in the 36th minute but left winger Samuel monnie's goal-bound shot was expertly scooped for the goal line by Kotoko's central defender Osei Bonsu. Kotoko took control from then on but all their effort to score the equaliser before the end of the first half proved fruitless. Kotoko were reduced to ten men in the 70th minute when left winger Nana Osei-Bonsu was shown the red card for dissent after Cape Coast based class one referee Buckman Yanney had shown him the yellow card for intentionally handling the ball. Kotoko replaced top Marksman Essuman Dadzie with midfielder Joe Acheampong in the 80th minute in a bid to tighten the midfield while Oly brought on Amui Quaye for Awudu Ibrahim two minutes later. Peasare made it 2-0 for Oly on the stroke of time when his shot outside the 18 deflected off the body of a Kotoko defender into the net. gri
