National Badminton Championship slated for Sept. 10 - 12

Accra, Aug. 27, GNA - The Badminton Association of Ghana (BAG) has announced the dates for its National Championship which has been fixed for Thursday, September 10 to Saturday 12, 2009. The three-day event dubbed 'Chairman's National Badminton Championships' is slated for the Sports Hall of the Ohene Djan Stadium, Accra and is being organised in collaboration with the National Sports Council (NSC).

A statement signed by Ignatius Elletey, Secretary General of BAG copied to GNA Sports said the Championship is aimed at popularising and whipping up interest of the sport among the youth of the country. He said the event will also serve as a platform to usher into office the newly appointed Executives of BAG as well as bring all stakeholders in the Badminton fraternity together to enhance the development and promotion of the sport.

Mr Elletey explained that the Championship will feature U-15 (boys/girls), U-19 (boys/girls), Seniors (40 years- 49 years) and Veterans (50 years and above).

Over 150 participants drawn from the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Central, Eastern, Greater Accra, Volta and Western Regions as well as from the Universities and Polytechnics are expected to participate in the Championship. 27 Aug. 09
