Narrow win for Kotoko

Kumasi : Kumasi Asante Kotoko, gradually rediscovering their smashing form, scored a hard 1-0 victory over Liberty Professional in their match played at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.

Kotoko owed their victory to Prince Adu Poku. Apart from scoring the only goal in the match for Kotoko, his deft touches and incisive passes created loopholes in the Liberty defence but his colleagues could not finish off most of his fine moves.

Adu-Poku set the hearts of the teeming supporters of Kotoko at ease when he scored in the 18th minute to win the day for Kotoko.

Adu Poku meandered his way through the tight Liberty defence released a piercing shot which hit the woodwork, but he chested the rebound and hit the roof of the net with a powerful shot.

Until the goal, Liberty led by former international star Foster Bastious had held the crowd spell-bound with flawless moves as Kotoko played on the defensive.

Kotoko, after the goal never looked back as they attacked from all angles earning three corner-kicks as against none by their opponents but they could not utilise them.

Liberty appeared unruffled in the second half as they put up a courageous fight with Foster and Bernard Aryee threading through the defence of Kotoko with ease.

Kotoko were denied another goal in the 88th minute when Baba Armando's shot hit the upright and the rebound was cleared by the Liberty defence.

Liberty in a swift-counter attack exposed the defence of Kotoko as Foster ran through the middle and laid on a pass for substitute Asamoah Dzifa in the 89th minute, but his shot went wide in the 89th minute.

At Tema, Afienya United drew 0-0 with Power F/C while Sekondi Hasaacas beat visiting Tema Ghapoha 2-1 at the Gyandu Park.
