Management institute deplores over-valuing of foreign expertise

The Ghanaian Times reports that the Ghana Institute of Management (GIM), has called on Ghanaians to re-examine the self-debasing concept of over-valuing foreign expertise. Dr David Abose, senior lecturer/consultant at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) is quoted as saying, "some organisations are making it to the top through Ghanaians, who never travelled outside Ghana to acquire knowledge".

Dr Abose, who was delivering a lecture on: "Problems and opportunities of managing organisations in Ghana", as part of the activities to mark 'GIM Week', is reported as saying that the management of resources of organisations continue to pose problems.

"There is the problem of not putting systems and procedures in place to ensure proper performance of responsibilities and to assure proper supervision". He said management institutions has turned out individuals in those skills but they are sometimes incapable of putting their skills into practice.
