Kotoko's Goalkeeper And Team Manager Banned For A Year

Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s number one goalkeeper, Osei Boateng has been sanctioned from participating in all Ghana Football Association (GFA) organized competitions for one year. The ban follows goalkeeper Boateng's violent attack on Bernard Asare, a player of Power FC in the 24th week league match between Kotoko and Power FC.

General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA, Kofi Nsiah, said in a statement that the FA took the decision after a critical evaluation of reports on the 24th week league between Power FC and Asante Kotoko and all the evidence before it.

In a related development, Alhaji Haruna Yahaya, team manger of Kotoko, has also been banned for one year from holding himself as an official of any football club in the country. He is alleged to have assaulted a referee during the Power FC match. Kumasi Asante Kotoko football club has also been ordered to pay a fine of 950,000 cedis for the misconduct of their supporters in the 24th week league match against Power FC.

According Mr. Nsiah, the supporters destroyed a Nissan pick up belonging to Electricity Company of Ghana a few minutes before the commencement of the game and the amount would be used to repair the vehicle.
