Kotoko Boss Flares Up On VAT

Accra - There is now a 12.5% VAT surcharge on all football match tickets, so says Herbert Mensah, the Kotoko boss.

The 12.5% VAT surcharge was implemented as a fait a complait, he added.

In his weekly discourse to the Kotoko family on football matters, Herbert Mensah said he believed the people who sought the VAT introduction should have had the courage to introduce and implement the tax as an additional tax rather than hiding behind VAT.

Herbert Mensah explained that although all the clubs were invited to a meeting on VAT, the clubs asked for a time to put their cases across, but this was ignored.

Herbert Mensah pointed out that business is not simply about turnover, explaining further that, "it is also about margins... for most clubs in Ghana operate with negative margins and are in arrears".

The letter to the introduction of VAT was alleged to have been signed and dated as far back as March 3rd, 2000.
