Kickboxing: WKF National Championship in Accra on Saturday

The Vienna City Entertainment Centre located at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra rocks with kickboxing action tomorrow Saturday May 28 with a night long national championship featuring attractive bouts.

The World Kickboxing Federation (WKF) event sees Isaac Aikins of Bushido Club take on Steavano Tuekpe of Power Zone Club in the main bout of the night which promises fireworks as both boast world class experience having fought and won many international championships for Ghana.

Presented by the Power Zone Kickboxing Club with support of the Ghana Kickboxing Association and the National Sports Authority, tomorrow night’s championship promises to be an exciting and remarkable one as the quest to introduce and acquint Ghanaians to the sport as it gains momentum.

According to Lawrence Nyanyo Nmai, Ghana Kickboxing captain and WKF President in Ghana, the championship which is a national title fight and test the fighters for a world championship on November 12, is a determination to make Ghanaians understand the game and also create awareness that kickboxing is alive, not dead.

“People don’t understand that kickboxing is a nice sport with massive potential for bringing glory to Ghana. They say it can kill but we have to change that perception. There are many talents available and we will hold auditions soon all over the country to identify them,” Mr. Nyanyo Nmai, a 4-time world champion, told All Sports.

He added: “We also have to shed off the image that it’s a dirty sport. That’s why we are holding the event at Vienna City to make sure the most decent and responsible people attend.”

The WKF championship night is sponsored by Consul Games and Red Bull and supported by Mrs. Ingeborg Smith, a patron of the Ghana Kickboxing Association.
