'It was a sweet revenge against Kotoko'

Ashanti Gold midfielder, Joseph Ato Bissah says beating Asante Kotoko for the Otumfuo Cup was a sweet revenge for his outfit.

The Miners last Sunday shocked Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara sports stadium by thrashing the Kumasi giants 3-1 to lift the giant trophy at stake.

Ashgold in the game struck twice in the first half of the game through Tijani Joshua and Safiu Mumuni, however, the Porcupine Warriors in the second half came in strongly and reduced the deficit in the 84th minute through Obed Owusu but at a point when Kotoko were fighting to draw level their goalie Joseph Addo’s mistake cost them dearly as the Miners restored their two goal lead thanks to Eric Opoku strike.

Ahead of the Sunday’s game, Asante Kotoko have had two consecutive wins over their regional rivals, first was an FA Cup quarter finals that the Porcupine Warriors won 2-0 and a second round 1-0 league victory.

However, in last Sunday’s Otumfuo Cup game, the ‘Aboakese lads’ went into the game seeking a revenge over their counterparts and they did it in a grand style by thrashing Asante Kotoko 3-1 to win the trophy.

And Ashgold’s midfielder Joseph Ato Bissah says beating Kotoko for the trophy was a sweet revenge for his side after their two consecutive defeats to the Porcupine Warriors.

“During the season we lost two times to Kotoko, the FA Cup and a league game and those loses hurt us a lot so we were just looking for the opportunity for a revenge and we had it at their own back yard so winning against Kotoko and also lifting the trophy was a sweet revenge for us,” Ato Bissah exclusively told Allsports.com.gh.

The 27 year old midfielder added: “The season has ended and I want to promise all Ashgold fans of a better performance next season because we will like to defend our league trophy and do well in Africa in order to raise the flag of Ghana high”.
