Is something wrong with the Black Stars?

The Black Stars of Ghana played their opening match against the Teranga Lions of Senegal losing by 2 goals to 1.

Upon the poor performance at the world cup, Ghanaians were hoping the Black Stars would revive the enthusiasm of their supporters by delivering a good and outstanding performance, probably a win, but all the hopes were dashed against Senegal.

Some football lovers have expressed a loss of confidence in the entire team and are not happy and willing to continue watching other subsequent matches of the Black Stars to save them from heartbreaks.

Can it be said that the actual problems or challenges of the team has still not been noticed and has been left unattended to; with much focus placed on the choice of a coach?

Watching the match on Monday, the Teranga Lions had full possession of the ball with the Black stars exposing their weakness with a lack of strong defense to protect the Ghana goal.

Other football lovers also were of the view that every sector of Ghana is full of politics and nepotism not excluding the Black Stars team which according to them, informs the selection of players.

Some believe a player like Jordan Ayew is living and getting opportunities due to the past glory of his father Abedi Pele, although his abilities are questionable due to his poor performance at the world cup, messing the only chance Ghana had to qualify to the next stage.

It is no news that players who have high influence but do not deserve to be selected are always gaining priority in the team.

How good was the decision of Avram Grant camping the players in Spain for an Africa Cup of Nation tournament which the players ended up performing poorly in their opening match.

The Black Stars played thinking: “oh yes, we will win because we are better than Senegal” hence delivering below their standard; with the Senegalese playing with the mindset: “Black Stars are good so we must deliver more than expected of us for us to win”, which led them to scoring 2 goals for the win.

It is time Ghanaians wake up to hold accountable these players to deliver the worth of the huge taxpayers' money paid to them as bonuses.
