Inter-Regional Soccer and Volleyball Championship opens

Koforidua, June 27, GNA - This year's Milo Annual inter-Regional Soccer and Volleyball Championship was officially opened at Koforidua on Monday with Ahmadiyya Secondary School, Potsin(Potsin) defeating New Juaben College of Commerce(NJUACOCO) by one goal to nil in the opening football match.

In other matches played earlier, Prempeh College, Kumasi(PREMPEH) beat St. Prosper's College, Ho(PROSPER'S) 2-1 and Winneba Secondary School, (WINNESEC) drew 1-1 with Wenchi Methodist Day Secondary School(METH. DAY) at full time, but won 5-3 on penalty kicks. Takoradi Technical Institute (T'DITECH) beat Nalerigu Secondary School(NASS) 3-2 on penalty kicks, after drawing 2-2 at full-time . In soccer under 12-Boys, Greater Accra Region beat Western Region 3-0, Northern Region lost 2-3 on penalty kicks to Upper East Region after drawing 2-2 at full time, Volta Region beat Upper West Region 2-1 and Eastern Region beat Ashanti Region 5-4 on penalty kicks after drawing 2-2 at full time.

In soccer under 15-Girls, Upper East Region lost 1-4 to Ashanti Region, Central Region beat Volta Region 4-1, Northern Region beat Upper West Region 6-1 and Eastern Region lost 0-1 to Brong Ahafo Region.

In all, 20 second-cycle institutions are taking part in soccer (boys) and volleyball (girls) championship, while the ten regions would be competing in Soccer, (boys Under-12) and girls Under-15) during the week-long tournament which ends on July 1, 2006.
