Ghanair sponsors polo team to U. K.

GHANA Airways has sponsored a six-man team from Accra Polo Club to England and Ireland for a five-match polo tournament.

The team is captained by Frank Adu Jnr, and includes Kenneth Quartey, Kwame Awuah-Darko, Ameer Captain and Adamu Yaro. Mr Daniel Awuah-Darko Jnr. is team manager.

The team manager said during the tour, they would play two matches in Ireland and three in England.In Ireland, they were to meet Wicklow Polo Club yesterday followed by a match against Humewood Castle Polo Club today.

And in England, they start their three-match tour as the guests of Farm Polo Club tomorrow.They play Guards Polo Club on Saturday, and on Sunday, they round off their tour as the guests of Ham Polo Club, who have taken part in Accra Polo Club's Annual International Polo tournaments in Ghana since 1980.

At the Ham Polo match, the winners of GRi's Ghana Airways competition (see GRi's Independence Issue) will be presented with their winning return tickets to Accra. The presentation will be made by Mr Patrick Hayford, Acting Ghana High Commisioner to UK and currently tipped for an ambassadorial post to South Africa. The London post is to belived to go to Mr F.A Danso, one time Acting High Commissioner in UK and presently Secretary to the Cabinet in Ghana.

This is not the first time Ghana Airways is sponsoring a team from Accra Polo Club.Last year, it sponsored a five-man team to Rhodes Island, U.S.A.

The team will return home on Tuesday, August 19.
