Former Sports Minister, OB Amoah, has said there is no way Team Ghana can haul a medal at the Olympic Games since the nation does not invest in long term preparations for the multi-sport competition.

According to the Aburi/Nsawam MP, funding challenges have forced the national sports associations to commence their short period pre-Olympic Games training this year after their athletes gained qualification to the Rio 2016.

Ghana is chasing its first gold medal at the Olympic Games but has managed to secure three bronze medals in Tokyo 1964, Munich 1972 and Barcelona 1992.

“We are talking about the Olympic games. Some countries have prepared for the past 10 years they have a rolled out programme in stages of implementation. They have hierarchy in stages - juniors, seniors and those for the Olympics”, he told Starr Sports.

"If we don’t move in that direction and think that we look for athletes a year to Olympics we should forget. It will be just flying Ghana flag and leading the people to march in the opening ceremony. It means garbage in, garbage out”, he added.
