First Ever Blind Sports Championship in Accra

on Friday

The Greater Accra Regional Sports Authority, in collaboration with the sports wing of the Ghana Blind Union, will organise the First Ever Regional Sports Authority Blind Sports Nucleus Team Championship (Goalball Championship) at the Tennis Court of the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, 28th March, 2014 from 8:00a.m. – 4:00p.m.

The Championship, solely sponsored by the Greater Accra Regional Sports Authority, involves four (4) Goalball teams, comprising two (2) male and two (2) female teams from Accra Metro and the University of Ghana.

A total of twenty-four (24) visually impaired Athletes and four (4) Officiating Officials will participate in the event.

According to Kwame Amponfi Jr. Acting Regional Sports Director,the purpose of the Championship is to raise formidable regional male and female Nucleus Goalball teams to prepare towards effective participation in national and international competitions such as the National Unity Games.

Beside the above objective, the Greater Accra Sports Directorate also intends to use this platform to create awareness on Goalball as an emerging sporting discipline for persons with disability in the Greater Accra Region.

Very attractive cash prizes are at stake for the winning Goalball teams in both male and female categories.

There will be spectacular display of Goalball by persons with visual impairments.
